“Any demon is capable of cruelty, but only an angel is majestic enough to rain down vengeance for the innocent.” (pg. 608 of original print omnibus)

The Mindf*ck Series is an action packed collection of 5 short books by S.T. Abby, one of multiple pseudonyms author C.M. Owens used throughout her career. The late S.T. Abby used this nickname specifically for her darker romance novels which focus on gory descriptions, morally black character traits, and other explicit content that might not be suitable for all readers. Please check your trigger warnings if you are sensitive to these topics! This books is a duet with POVs from the FMC and MMC.

The series quickly introduces you to Lana Meyers (yes a reference to Michael Meyers!!), a young woman stopping for coffee at a small cafe in the DMV area. After his partner shamelessly flirts with Lana – and fails – she meets SSA Logan Bennett. He’s a real life hero who not only is charming and witty, but works overtime for the FBI tracking down serial killers and preventing the public from further atrocities. Heart eyes x1000.

Logan is immediately drawn to Lana due to her elusive presence and quirkiness (she’s not like other girls ofc). He’s never met someone who he can’t profile considering he’s one of the FBI’s best. Little does he know she’s been training for a decade against people like him. Schooling her mind and body to remain calm under pressure, masking her tells when it comes to lying, and always being 20 steps ahead. As fate would have it, the FBI agent falls for the serial killer in disguise.

This is a thrilling read that will have you laughing at the corny jokes, crying when reliving the character’s traumas, and wanting to plot the revenge with them.

I cannot believe it took me so long to read this book. If you haven’t you MUST move it to the top of your TBR. The plot was beyond amazing and kept me hooked the whole time. I finished the omnibus in a couple days and immediately got the audiobook to restart it. I loved the banter between the characters and thought the spice level was perfect. The ending was not what I expected but worked seamlessly with the characters. It was also refreshing to read a dark romance that had all the morally black things we love while also getting a more traditional/contemporary sweet romance between the two MCs. Don’t mind me, just adding this to the list of books I wish I could read for the first time again!
